How Skier Johnny Collinson Is Coming Back From Two ACL Tears

Johnny Collinson was one of those kids who was on skis from the time he could walk. The countless days he spent in the mountain as a youngster, combined with the fact that skiing runs in the Collinson family, lead Johnny to become one of the world’s best freestyle and big mountain skiers. But his career took an unexpected turn when he tore his ACL for the second time last year.

As many athletes experience, this injury has acted as a blessing in disguise in many ways — it forced Johnny to slow down and experience things he often doesn’t have the time for. “Whether it’s a bike ride, a walk or just driving around, I’ve been loving just taking some extra time to appreciate what’s happening around us,” said Johnny about his experience this fall. Building his knee back to full health has also given Johnny the opportunity to learn more about recovery and the intricacies of gym training. If you follow him on Instagram, you’ll notice that he has developed a physical passion for the skill and strength that gymnastics movements require, which has certainly presented new physical challenges as his knee continues to heal.

What we find especially inspiring about Johnny is his approach to the human body. While he’s undoubtedly one of the most talented athletes in the world, he’s also incredibly humble in his athletic philosophy and the way he views movement and health. It’s our pleasure to support him while he prepares for another season of snow, and in this episode of our Be Momentous series, Johnny shows us a snapshot into his current training, philosophy, and routine.
